Celebrating its 19th year making music accessible to everyone! We welcome you to join us for the Symphony Under the Stars FREE Family Concert.

The June 7th concert by the Virginia Symphony Orchestra is touted as one of the most anticipated events of the year in the community, drawing well over a thousand families and community members to Main Street for an evening of great food and music. The evening will begin at 6pm with a performance by Gloucester’s very own The Liberty Dolls!

Symphony Under the Stars is co-sponsored and supported [in part] by the Virginia Commission for the Arts, which receives support from the Virginia General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.

In the event of rain, the Symphony will be held at the T.C. Walker Education Center at 6099 T.C. Walker Road

Brandon Eldredge -Conductor

Brandon Eldredge is a conductor, pianist, and operatic coach, having worked across the United States, Germany, and Sweden. Most recently, he made his debut as principal conductor for Central City Opera’s 2024 production of The Pirates of Penzance. Since joining Virginia Opera as Associate Conductor and Chorus Master in 2019, he has cover conducted and prepared choruses for Tosca, Il Postino, La Cenerentola, Aida, Le nozze di Figaro, Sanctuary Road, and Madama Butterfly, as well as preparing choruses and conducting performances of La Bohème, The Pirates of Penzance, and La Traviata. He made his debut as principal conductor for the 2023-2024 production of Il barbiere di Siviglia. He is an integral part of the company’s Herndon Foundation Emerging Artists Program, working closely with young opera singers on the forefront of their careers. Having had his start as a conductor focused on symphonic repertoire, he worked as Assistant Conductor for the Urbana-Champaign Symphony Orchestra in Illinois and the orchestral ensembles at The College of New Jersey. Since 2022, he has appeared as Guest and Cover Conductor for a multitude of concerts with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra as part of their outreach and classical programming, including their latest collaboration with cellist Yo-Yo Ma.

Symone Harcum -Soloist

With a voice praised for its warmth and clarity, soprano Symone Harcum brings passion and versatility to roles spanning the operatic canon. Recent performances include Donna Anna in Don Giovanni with Virginia Opera, her house debut with Opera Philadelphia as Léontine in The Anonymous Lover, and recitals at universities across the country and at the National Gallery of Art.

A former Company Artist with Minnesota Opera, Symone has performed a number of roles there including Almirena (Rinaldo), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Léontine (The Anonymous Lover), and Micaëla (Carmen). She made her debut with Lyric Opera of Chicago as Sandra in the world premiere of Factotum, and has also appeared with Virginia Opera as La Contessa (Le Nozze di Figaro) and Clorinda (La Cenerentola), and with the Glimmerglass Festival as Micaëla.

Additional credits include Bea in Three Decembers (Opera Maine), Krystyna Zywulska in Out of Darkness: Two Remain (Peabody Opera), Gertrude in Hansel und Gretel, and La Ciesca in Gianni Schicchi. Symone is a first place winner of the Opera Ithaca Competition, the National Society of Arts and Letters-DC Voice Competition, and the Sylvia Green Voice Competition.

Before pursuing a full-time performance career, Symone worked as a choral director in Norfolk Public Schools. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Norfolk State University and a Master’s of Music from the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University in the studio of Denyce Graves and Margaret Baroody. Symone is currently on the voice faculty at Norfolk State University.
